Secondary Weekly Highlights STEM

We have had a STEM-tastic week at EP. Our fabulous student prefects for STEM, Maths and Computer Science, Biology, DT, Physics, Eco and Chemistry have treated staff and students to a medley of activities and learning moments as part of STEM Week - a week-long exploration of all things Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths related.

STEM Week 2021 activitySTEM Week 2021 activity: Paper folding

Our student prefects have worked alongside our Science technicians and our Head of Science and DT, Mr Bridges, to design and implement the week. Their aim has been to raise awareness of STEM subjects - to share their own sense of fascination and curiosity and how an interest in STEM can lead to a wide range of career pathways and areas of further study. They have certainly been successful in their aims as we have seen large numbers of staff and students engage with the programme of breaktime and lunchtime events.

STEM Week 2021 activity: Cell cookies

We have experimented, hypothesised, competed and created our way through bottle rockets, cell cookies, a Ruben’s Tube experiment, slime making, tower building, treasure hunting and code breaking. The lecture by Ms. Mai Sarra on Microbiology and careers in Science was particularly powerful in the conversations it generated about future pathways.

Congratulations to the STEM Week ‘21 prefect team on their leadership of such a successful, informative and engaging week.
