It was a day filled with joy, nostalgia, and heartfelt memories as Tuanku, His Highness Crown Prince of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, graced The Alice Smith School with his presence on Tuesday, 28th November 2023.
Our Secondary Campus shimmered with an air of excitement, anticipation, and pride as the distinguished alumni returned to the halls where his secondary educational journey began.
Sian May, Head of School, expressed the school community's profound gratitude, saying, "On behalf of The Alice Smith School community, we extend our deepest gratitude to Tuanku for revisiting his alma mater. The echoes of the past resonated through the corridors, and we hoped that the cherished memories of his time here flooded back, creating a tapestry of nostalgia that binds us all together."
Special thanks are also extended to Y.A.M. Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Chair of The Alice Smith School Foundation Tengku Zatashah for her unwavering dedication as the Chair of our Foundation. Her efforts were crucial in facilitating Tuanku's memorable visit, making it a truly special and significant occasion for the school.
As part of the visit, Tuanku had the opportunity to meet with our Head Students and engage with the Eco Club students. The Eco Club, who engage in several commendable initiatives under this unique Exploration Pathway Activity, demonstrated the Sea Monkey Plastic Recycling Machine - a project funded by the Foundation. Witnessing the commitment of the Eco Club students to environmental sustainability was a heartening experience, highlighting the positive impact of their initiatives.
The Alice Smith School takes immense pride in its rich history as the first international school in Malaysia. Our commitment to nurturing global citizens while celebrating Malaysian culture is at the heart of our educational philosophy. Therefore, having Tuanku visit us was a double honour, as he not only represents our illustrious alumni but also shares the experience with our students, enriching their understanding of tradition and legacy.
Sian May, Head of School, remarked, "The school has evolved since Tuanku's time here, and we find ourselves on a new journey with our community. Over the past year, we have collaborated with staff, students, parents, and the wider community to redefine our vision and mission, giving birth to a brand new purpose statement: 'Spark Courageous Exploration To Inspire a Better World.'"
This purpose is not merely words on paper; it is a guiding light for our students, encouraging them to explore different paths with courage and curiosity. It is a commitment to building a supportive, connected community that innovates, explores, and learns together. It is an impassioned plea to our people, a diverse collective of experts and curious minds, to work collaboratively and push the boundaries of education to lead learning for an ever-changing world.
As The Alice Smith School embarks on this transformative journey, Tuanku's visit adds a regal touch to their aspirations. The school expresses heartfelt gratitude for his continued interest and support, looking forward to a continued close association with the Royal Family in shaping the school's forward-facing future.
Ampun Tuanku, thank you for gracing us with your presence and for being an integral part of The Alice Smith School's remarkable journey. May the echoes of this royal homecoming resonate within our walls for generations to come.
