"Sustainability" Secondary Weekly Highlights klasshub eco club

The KLASS Hub at the Secondary Campus is poised to become a cornerstone of our school experience. This state-of-the-art facility will be more than just a building; it will be a vibrant hub designed to enrich the lives of our students, parents, and staff.

As a non-profit organisation, we are committed to investing in the success of our students. The KLASS Hub reflects this commitment by providing a range of amenities that cater to the diverse needs of our school community.

Seamless and Secure Access

Prioritising safety and convenience, the KLASS Hub will feature a single point of secure entry for students and visitors, complete with an electronic gate system. This streamlined access will ensure a welcoming and secure environment for everyone.

Accessibility is also a key component. We will be implementing new features such as graded ramps, ample seating, and clear pathways.

Showcasing Our Legacy and Innovation

The KLASS Hub will boast a welcoming lobby and reception area that celebrates our school’s rich history and innovative spirit. This space will serve as a canvas to showcase our students' remarkable achievements and creativity, highlighting the vibrant and dynamic community at Alice Smith School.

Culinary Delights and Dining Experiences

At the heart of the KLASS Hub, you'll find a new kitchen, canteen, and both indoor and outdoor dining. An Al-Fresco café space, with a view of the front pitches, is also taking shape. This vibrant space will offer a delectable array of food options, from a delightful deli to a welcoming canteen, ensuring that everyone can savour delicious and nourishing meals.

Enhancing the Community Experience

The KLASS Hub will also house a new KLASS Shop, offering uniforms and more, as well as a heritage centre to preserve and share our school's legacy. Additionally, the Hub will provide dedicated spaces for community events, such as Parent Teacher Association gatherings, fostering a stronger sense of community and engagement among students, parents, and staff.

Comprehensive Landscape Redesign

We're adding green spaces around the KLASS Hub, including a new main entrance plaza, an updated amphitheatre, and several pocket gardens. Our goal is to boost functionality and beauty, creating enjoyable and peaceful settings for everyone. These enhancements will not only enrich the visual appeal of our campus but also provide serene areas for relaxation and community activities.

The space will also incorporate native and sustainable plants into our campus landscape. This diverse mix not only enhances local plant and animal life but also beautifies the area. Our careful selection supports local biodiversity, creating sensory spaces that invite exploration and interaction. By attracting greater usage, these plants contribute to a thriving ecosystem while adding natural charm to our surroundings.

Sustainability in Focus

Aligning with our commitment to sustainability, the KLASS Hub will feature increased capacity for solar panels, further supporting our mission to reduce our environmental impact.

Another important element of the redesign project involves the ground between Design Technology and the staff room. Together with our Head Groundsman, students and colleagues are reshaping this area.

The Eco Club also participated in a composting workshop. Turning our school kitchen scraps and garden waste into compost not only improves our soil but also supports our sustainability goals. It helps reduce landfill waste and methane emissions. Additionally, we're avoiding the use of plastic bags, which can break down into harmful microplastics. These projects are crucial as they teach us to take practical steps for the environment while we enhance our campus.

These initiatives underscore further our dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable future for our school community.
