Secondary Weekly Highlights

As the pandemic continues to have a hold over our leisure time, we have sharpened our focus on personal and community wellbeing. At EP, we strive to provide a holistic education that reaches far beyond the classroom and one that supports the whole community. One overwhelming success story has been the introduction of Rise and Shine Morning Motivation.

This week, our House Leader and ECA Coordinator, Danny Hodnett, tells us more about the Rise and Shine programme and our virtual ECA calendar:

"Rise and Shine is a morning movement class aimed at supporting students, parents and teachers to start the day the right way by taking part in some fun-filled exercise. Classes range from Metcon and Tabata workouts to stretching and mobility sessions aimed at counteracting long periods of time sitting in a chair. All classes have a ‘guest trainer’, someone from the Alice Smith community who takes the lead for that session. Rise and Shine runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 07:00 to 07:30 and we are always excited to see new faces - feel free to come along.

Here is what some of the community have to say about Rise and Shine.

I have really enjoyed the variety of sessions that have been offered from our community. There is a great vibe during the activities - everyone working hard with smiles on their faces. What a great way to start your day! Warren Newbery (Head of Sport)

I’ve enjoyed the variety of exercise types in the Rise and Shine programme and it’s always more fun to exercise with others! Anette (Head Student)

Amazing way to start the morning. It’s motivating, fun and starts your day off well. The variety of workout makes every session worth the early start! Tegan (Year 13 student)

I really don’t want to do it but I do it because it’s healthy!  It’s a fun and energising way to start your day!  We are really enjoying being active together, a time and place keeps us motivated! Clare (Parent)

Rise and Shine is just part of the Virtual ECA programme at EP. For the final 4 weeks of term, we will be running a range of teacher-led virtual ECAs with the purpose of providing students the chance to have fun, learn new skills and connect with others. Whether you see yourself as the next Gordan Ramsey, want to learn kickboxing or immerse yourself in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, there is something for you. See our Virtual Enrichment Calendar for more details.

For those wanting to learn more about the benefits of early morning exercise, feel free to read the following article or study."

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
