Friday 22nd April saw great excitement engulf the JB campus, as we prepared to celebrate the UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day. After so many months of distance learning and various other restrictions, it was truly a joy to come together and celebrate this fabulous event as a school.

The corridors and classrooms were a riot of colour as children and staff showed off their amazing costumes; either characters from favourite books or in the colours of their National flags to pay homage to the theme of ‘Read Around the World’.

The day was filled with exciting book-related activities. There was fierce competition to be crowned the winning class in the ‘Read Around The World’ contest. Eventually, 1H and 5T emerged victorious and were each rewarded with a bundle of fabulous new books to enjoy in class.

Laughter could be heard from Early Years up to Y6 as children enjoyed watching episodes of ‘The Masked Reader’, where teachers had donned virtual masks and put on funny voices to read favourite stories for the children to watch. As the children voted for their favourite Masked Reader, it was clear that there would be a runaway winner. Congratulations to Mrs Powell, who read ‘The Serious Book’ by Jodie Parachini, whilst disguised as the Queen of England!

The pinnacle of the day was a virtual visit from UK based author and storyteller, Cat Weatherill. Cat delighted the children with an engaging presentation based on her books, ‘Barkbelly’ and ‘Wild Magic’.

A fabulous day was enjoyed by everyone, and best of all lots of reading was done and fun was had.
