Learning Early Years Innovation in Education Primary Weekly Highlights

Jan Dubiel is an independent speaker, consultant, trainer, and author who focuses on Early Years policy, pedagogy, and practice. He is a nationally and internationally recognised specialist in Early Childhood Education.

In 2018, he was named as one of the ten most influential people in British education by the Times Educational Supplement. Jan’s expertise lies in the development of pedagogy in the early childhood sector. Jan emphasises the importance of understanding the complexity, sophistication, and unpredictability of children's learning and the need for adults to develop an informed, dynamic, and responsive pedagogical repertoire to facilitate this.

Jan’s insights and recommendations can be valuable for educators and practitioners in the Early Years sector and we have had the privilege of his time for a series of workshops, and consultation with our Primary education team at the Alice Smith School. Theresa Forbes has a diverse professional background, having served in various roles in the education sector and beyond. She has been a teacher, a headteacher, a government curriculum advisor, a business development leader, and is currently the director of 'Shaping Learning'. 

Theresa has worked with a range of leading international education organisations on improving learning through curriculum and programme design. Recently, she has been sharing her wealth of experience in educational leadership and strategic planning with our Primary educators at Alice Smith School. Her expertise in navigating the ever-changing educational landscape will be instrumental in helping us craft a roadmap for the future. A group of teachers from Year 2 to Year 6 and subject specialists have been exploring the opportunities of further enhancing our current curriculum to be concept-based and inquiry-driven. 

It was an absolute joy and pleasure to host Jan and Theresa to engage with our educator colleagues at Alice Smith Primary School, we’re grateful and excited for all the positive feedback about the work we’re doing together in this area.
