ART ROOM BLOG

This week in the virtual Art Room, we have been celebrating International DOT Day!

Dot Day is based on the book, The Dot, by Peter Reynolds which tells the story of a child called Vashti who resists creating art until her teacher empowers her to discover what a talented artist she really is! It is also a story of how even the youngest of us can ‘Make their Mark’ by being kind and helpful to others.

Years 3 and 4 celebrated ‘DOT DAY’ by referencing the amazing work of ‘The Princess of Polka Dots’ herself, Yayoi Kusama! Kusama is Japan’s most famous contemporary artist – her work has been exhibited all across the world from Singapore to Australia to the UK and many of the Alice Smith students have been lucky enough to see her work in real life! The children had great fun exploring Kusama’s fascination with Monster Flowers, Pumpkins, Colour and of course Dots!
