Learning fobisia Student Success Stories Competitions

Alice Smith School is a member of many prestigious regional and international learning communities. These groups offer us opportunities to celebrate learning with other schools in Malaysia and around the world. This week in school, many of our students are preparing for competitions hosted by some of our linked organisations.

In Year 4 and 5, students are excited to be participating in the 2021 COBIS (Council of British Schools) Poetry competition. The theme is 'Looking Ahead.’ In their lessons, the children will be exploring a range of poetry styles and sharing inspiration for the topic. Students can interpret this theme in any way they wish, but the title must be reflected in each poem. Last year, our year 6 student at the time was a runner-up in this event. The video below is her and her peer competition winners sharing their readings of their poems.

Across Key Stage 2, many children are furiously practising their times tables in preparation for the AIMS (Association of International Malaysian Schools) TTRS (Times Table Rock Stars) competition which will happen at the end of the month. Our students enthusiastically use TTRS to practice their multiplication skills. We have observed our students improve their accuracy and speed of recall by practising with TTRS. We are confident that our students will represent us well in this event.

For the past ten years, we have participated in the FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools In Asia) Short Story Competition. The competition is a great opportunity for children to apply their writing skills for an authentic, engaging purpose and we are regularly very impressed with the exceptionally high standard of writing from our children. The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Memories.’  Throughout Key Stage 2, during the next month, our students are excited to be participating in this writing competition.

We wish all KLASS competitors all the very best with their hard work and competition entries. We also recognise that many of our students participate in competitions and special events out of school. At Alice Smith, we care about all of our students. In school we have a CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENTS display board and invite children to add to it. If your child has accomplished something out of school, please send their Class Teacher and Mrs Jones (Pastoral Leader) a photograph of your child and a brief description of their achievement. We look forward to celebrating lots of success during the next term.
