UPDATE June 2022: Kenisha has received her trophies and certificates from the preliminary and the final round of this competition! Here's an update from Kenisha;

"Recently, I received the trophies and certificates from the preliminary and final rounds. In total there are 4 trophies, 2 of the trophies are from each category during the preliminary round and the other 2 trophies are from the final round of this cherishable competition! I have also received my certificates alongside these trophies, not only this but in the mini booklets from each category, it also contains the judges' feedback for my performance in that category. This form of feedback is extremely important and useful as I know how to improve for the next time and what parts of my performance went well!

When my mum picked up the trophies and certificates and brought them back home, I was over the moon and was so eager to open them… I just couldn’t resist seeing the appearance of it. When I finally saw the trophies and the certificates, I could feel an immense amount of happiness and excitement. As well as this, I felt extremely grateful for everyone’s hard work who pushed me to always do my best and to give it my all.

I can confidently say that this competition will always have a special place in my heart. Also, I am very happy and grateful for being able to share this experience with the readers out there! Thank you so much and especially thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this whole competition. I will always be very grateful for this!"

Congratulations again to Kenisha on a wonderful performance! 👏🏆

We always love to hear about student success both inside and outside of school. In today's blog Kenisha tells us about her experience in taking part in the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival - Music & Talents Competition 2021 where she achieved a Gold Award for the Vocal Competition and a Silver Award for the Piano Competition. She now goes into the Grand Finals round for both categories.

"During Term 1, I participated in the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival - Music & Talents Competition 2021. This competition is held so that children can showcase their talent in the Arts field. Inside this competition, you can choose to participate in a wide range of categories such as: modelling, dancing, drawing/painting, vocal, piano and the list goes on! I decided to participate in the vocal and piano categories.

Firstly, I decided which song to choose by discussing it with my piano teacher and also my vocal teacher, who were both very supportive towards me and helped me throughout this whole experience. Once we decided, I put in all of my effort and my commitment to this competition and started practising the pieces for each category. I would practise nearly every day so that I was confident and fully prepared to start the recordings.

Preliminary results for the vocal category

I started recording for this competition in mid-October. For my piano piece, my piano teacher helped me with the recording. For my vocal piece, my mum helped me with the recording as my vocal teacher was not able to come to my house due to COVID restrictions. We would do around 2 recordings per week for both and repeat over the course of several weeks. Once we had several recordings to choose from, my piano teacher chose the best recording for the piano piece and submitted it to the competition. For the vocal piece, my mum and I sent the recordings to my vocal teacher to choose the best recording and submit it for the competition.

Preliminary results for the piano categoryWhen doing the recordings, although I practised a lot, I still felt nervous and very anxious every time I did the recordings. I would always want to make sure that it was the best it could be and that it was better than the previous recordings. However, I am very happy that I had these feelings and this opportunity as it taught me how to have self-confidence, resilience as well as commitment.

I am very happy because to start off the new year I received amazing news. I had attained a Silver Award for the piano category. On January 7th, I received the news that I had attained a Gold Award for the vocal category. As I achieved these two achievements, I now have the opportunity to move on to the Grand Finals. Due to COVID travel restrictions, I will have to submit a video recording for the Grand Finals. However, the Grand Finals were actually meant to happen in New York!

Overall, I am extremely proud and very grateful for this opportunity and what I have learned and gained from this experience!"

Congratulations Kenisha and good luck in the Grand Finals!
