The Alice Smith School community proudly celebrated a significant milestone as we honoured three exceptional students at the 2025 Tertiary Study Grant Reception. Congratulations to Leow Xin Yu, Tiffany Ang and Zhang Ning Chia - three outstanding individuals whose academic excellence and dedication have earned them support as they embark on their university journeys at world-leading institutions.
The awards were presented by YAM Tengku Zatashah Binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Chair of the Alice Smith School Foundation Board, alongside fellow Board members Dato' Roslan Jaffar, Norinne Dewal and Grant Ferguson. The ceremony also welcomed back current recipients Siddhart Cross, Eugene Hwang and Shu Qi Tan who attended to connect with the Foundation and share their experiences with the new awardees, creating a meaningful bridge between past and present scholars.
Expanding Opportunities
Last year, the Foundation announced an expansion of its Tertiary Study Grant scheme, opening applications to all Year 13 students who secure places at World Top 30 Universities or internationally acclaimed specialist institutions - broadening the Foundation's mission to recognise and support exceptional talent across the entire student body.
The Tertiary Study Grant provides partial support for undergraduate tuition fees, with grants of up to RM50,000 per annum. These awards are funded through generous donations to the scholarships and bursaries fund of the Alice Smith School Foundation.
A Growing Legacy of Success
The scheme has already demonstrated its impact on students' academic futures. Zhi Yan Lee, the programme's inaugural recipient, graduated with a First in his Master of Chemical Engineering degree from Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. Shu Qi Tan, the 2023 recipient, is pursuing her Master of Chiropractic degree at the University of South Wales. Meanwhile, 2024 recipients Siddhart Cross and Eugene Hwang are excelling in their studies, Siddhart in Engineering at the University of Oxford and Eugene in Computer Science at the University of Cambridge.
Meet the 2025 Recipients
The interview panel was deeply impressed by this year's applicants, citing their exceptional academic achievements and meaningful contributions to the community. Each recipient demonstrated not only outstanding scholastic ability but also significant involvement in school life and dedication to serving others.

More Than Financial Support
Recipients of the Alice Smith Foundation Tertiary Study Grant take on important roles as ambassadors for the school and the Foundation. They commit to returning annually to support the Higher Education department, mentoring current students, and serving as Year Representatives in their respective countries. These connections ensure that the Alice Smith community remains strong and interconnected, regardless of where alumni pursue their studies.
Looking Ahead
As our three 2025 recipients prepare to begin their undergraduate journeys, they carry with them not only financial support but also the confidence and encouragement of an entire school community. Their dedication, hard work, and aspirations truly reflect the spirit of this award programme.
The Alice Smith School Foundation remains committed to supporting exceptional students in achieving their educational goals, and we look forward to following the continued success of Leow Xin Yu, Tiffany Ang and Zhang Ning Chia as they embark on this exciting new chapter.
Congratulations to all our recipients!
