Support for Year 13 Students: University Admissions Guidance

For our Year 13 students awaiting A Level results, this is a particularly important time. The outcome of your exams could determine your next steps in higher education, including securing your place at university.

Our Higher Education and Careers team is ready to support both students and parents as results are released. For enquiries, please contact the team via email at hodhighereducation.ep@alice-smith.edu.my

We strongly encourage students to be proactive and prepared for all possible outcomes. Here are a few key steps to take in advance:

Preparing for UCAS Clearing

If you are applying to UK universities, it's wise to be familiar with the UCAS Clearing process. Clearing is available for students who:

  • Do not meet the conditions of their firm or insurance offers
  • Apply to university after the 30 June deadline
  • Decide to change course or institution after receiving their results

Even if you’re confident about your results, being prepared ensures you can act quickly and make informed choices.

Here's how to prepare:

  1. Visit the UCAS Clearing website: Look at the courses available at your firm and insurance choice universities. Are there similar programmes listed in Clearing? What are the required grades?
  2. Keep your contact information ready: Write down the admissions telephone numbers and emails of your firm and insurance universities. If you need to contact them, you’ll want to do so without delay.
  3. Identify a “Plan B” university: Research another university offering your preferred course via Clearing. Having this option prepared ahead of time reduces stress and gives you greater control over your choices.
  4. Stay flexible: Sometimes the perfect course isn’t the one you originally applied for. If you're open to exploring slightly different subject areas, there may be more opportunities available to you.

Results day is a major milestone - and no matter what your outcomes are, it's important to remember that there are many routes to success. Whether you’re celebrating fantastic results, exploring clearing options, or considering a different pathway, we want you to know: you are not alone. Our Higher Education and Careers team are here to guide and help..

The coming days may bring a lot of emotion, but they also mark the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in your journey.
