The dream of studying at the prestigious University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, has become a reality for Siddhart Cross and Eugene Hwang, recent recipients of the Alice Smith School Foundation Tertiary Study Grant. This grant opens new doors for both Siddhart and Eugene, whose passion and hard work have earned them a place at the world’s top universities.

The Alice Smith School Foundation, launched in November 2018, was established to support the school’s philanthropic initiatives and to reinforce its commitment to excellence in education in Malaysia. Through the generosity of donors, the Foundation has enhanced the learning experiences for students, providing them with opportunities to excel and to chase their dreams. The Tertiary Study Grant is one such example of how the Foundation is making a transformative difference.

Both Siddhart and Eugene are thrilled to receive the tertiary grants.

During his 14 years at Alice Smith, Siddhart has consistently showcased academic excellence, leadership, and active community involvement. His achievements highlight his potential to not only thrive at the University of Oxford but also continue to contribute to the proud legacy of Alice Smith School.

“I'm extremely proud of Sid. It's a passion and a dream he's always had to go to Oxford and study engineering. And, I'm so glad that it's come true,” said Mrs Cross, Siddhart’s parent.

“I always reflect upon all the years that Sid and his brother, Sebastian, have had at Alice Smith. They've been here since Reception, and the word that always comes to mind is that they've thrived. They've really grown as individuals, from  personality wise, education wise, every aspect of life. Alice Smith has been a fantastic experience for them and for us as parents,” added Mr Cross.

Eugene began his primary education in a national school, embracing the challenges with determination. His dedication to excelling in both academics and extracurricular activities led to him being awarded the Alice Smith School ‘Reach for the Stars’ scholarship in the academic year 2020-2021. In his four years at Alice Smith, Eugene embraced the opportunities of an international school environment filled with vast possibilities. With additional support from our Higher Education and Careers team, his path was paved towards a successful entry into the University of Cambridge.

Mrs Hwang, Eugene’s parent, shared, “This is more than just financial assistance. It basically represents the school, which believes in my son's potential and also, his hard work and passion towards learning. In this wonderful Alice Smith community, as parents, we are not alone to support our children.”

Supporting the Alice Smith School Foundation brings immense pride, knowing that each contribution helps shape the future of talented young individuals. Making a gift that fuels aspirations and turns dreams into reality is an incredibly rewarding experience. Together, the Alice Smith School community is building a legacy of excellence and opportunity, proving that giving truly makes a difference.
