academic year back to school checklist

The new academic year is just around the corner, and the start of term always brings with it a mix of excitement and anticipation. Whether your child is joining us for the first time or returning after a well-deserved holiday, a smooth transition back to school life starts with a little preparation.

Our new school term starts on Thursday, 21st August

  • For all Primary students, the day starts at 7:40 am to 2:20 pm for all year groups, with the exception of our Preschool and Reception students, who have the option of a soft start between 7:40 am to 8:15 am.
  • The school day for all Secondary students will run from 7:50 am to 2:45 pm.
  • Exploration Pathway Activities (EPAs) Season 1 will begin on Monday, 8th September 2025, more details will be communicated soon.

To help you get organised, we’ve put together a handy checklist of key things to sort out before the first day of school. A little planning now can save time, reduce stress, and ensure your child begins the year feeling confident and ready to learn.

1. Check Uniform and Equipment

A smart, well-fitting uniform is not just about appearance - it helps your child feel part of the school community from day one. Take time to check:

  • Uniform fit: Try everything on now so you have time to replace or alter any items that have been outgrown over the break.
  • PE kit and shoes: Make sure shoes are the right size, and that you have ready all the necessary PE kit.
  • Accessories and stationery: Ensure your child has the correct school bag, stationery, and any subject-specific materials they may need.

Label all items clearly with your child’s name to help prevent lost property issues.

The School Shop is open Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm (excluding public holidays).

2. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

For Secondary students bringing their own devices (BYOD), please review the device requirements listed on My School Portal. This ensures your child’s laptop or tablet is fully compatible with the software and learning platforms we use.

Before term starts:

  • Update software and install required apps.
  • Check internet safety settings and security software.
  • Ensure the device is labelled with your child’s name and has a sturdy protective case.

3. School Meals

We want our students to stay energised and focused throughout the day, and having school meal arrangements ready is part of that.

  • Primary Campus: If you would like your child to have school meals, please order online through KLASS o.p.s by Sunday. Please note that ordering closes at 6:00 pm.
  • Secondary Campus: Load funds onto your child’s Vircle card so they can purchase meals and snacks from the school canteen. Don’t have a Vircle card? Visit reception on school campus.

4. School Bus Service

The Bus Buddy app is now available for managing your child’s school bus service. This app replaces all SchoolsBuddy Transport features and provides real-time GPS tracking of buses, making it easier for parents to stay informed about their child’s journey.

Look out for more information by email from our bus provider.

5. Complete Important Forms

To keep our records accurate and ensure the safety of everyone in our school community, please log in to your @asis.edu.my parent account and update the following:

  • Family Vehicle Registration - For smooth entry and exit during the school run, make sure you have an up-to-date car sticker. This helps our security team quickly identify authorised vehicles and ensures safety on campus. List all vehicles that will be used for drop-off and pick-ups.
  • Family Security Pass - Confirm who is authorised to collect your child.
  • Update Family Passport & Visas - If your documents have changed or expired, please upload the latest versions.

These details help us keep our campus secure and your child safe.

A Few Extra Tips for a Stress-Free Start

  • Re-establish a school routine early: begin adjusting bedtimes and morning routines so the first week back isn’t a shock to the system!
  • Talk about the year ahead: Encourage your child to share what they’re looking forward to and anything they might be nervous about. This helps ease first-day jitters.

The first day of school is always a special milestone - full of new friendships, challenges, and opportunities. With a little preparation, you can help your child step into the year ahead feeling confident, organised, and ready to thrive.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back and see our students fill the classrooms, playgrounds, and sports fields with energy and enthusiasm. Here’s to another great year of learning and growth.
