It's that time of year again for the thrilling adventures of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award at Alice Smith School! This year, our students have embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, determination, and a spirit of exploration.
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award empowers students to create a positive impact in their communities while gaining valuable skills and experiences. As a fully registered International Award Centre (IAC) running The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award for participating students from Years 10-13, Alice Smith School provides students with the opportunity to embark on a journey of personal growth and discovery.
The adventure commences as students volunteer their time to serve others in their community, showcasing their dedication to making a difference. Whether assisting local charities, mentoring younger peers, or engaging in environmental initiatives, our students are committed to giving back and contributing positively.
In addition to their voluntary service, students participate in skill development and physical recreation activities. From acquiring new languages to mastering musical instruments, our students continuously broaden their horizons and strive for excellence in areas they are passionate about. Through physical activities like sports, hiking, and outdoor adventures, they prioritise their well-being while nurturing a love for the outdoors.
One of the most thrilling aspects of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is the opportunity for students to partake in adventurous journeys. This year, our Bronze, Silver, and Gold participants embarked on practice and qualifying expeditions to breathtaking locations across Malaysia.

In pursuit of their Gold Award, students embarked on a preparatory expedition in Year 12 and completed their qualifying journey in Year 13. The recent Gold Adventurous Journey unfolded at Kenyir Lake, Terengganu, providing participants with a challenging and rewarding experience.
For their Silver Award, students engaged in sessions amidst the refreshing atmosphere of Cameron Highlands and successfully completed their qualifying expedition at Endau Rompin State Park. The DoE Silver Qualifier experience at Rompin State Park was truly memorable, involving activities such as hiking through ancient rainforests, camping under the stars, and tracking wild elephants.

Meanwhile, for their Bronze Award, students undertook practice at The Nest @ MAEPS Selangor, aiming for qualification in Ulu Slim, Perak, scheduled for May 2024. These expeditions not only challenge students physically but also provide invaluable opportunities for personal development and fostering a deeper connection with nature.
