What a wonderful atmosphere we had! Our students truly embraced the spirit of community, creativity, and compassion.

Jeans for Genes Day: Kindness in Blue

It was fantastic to see the school awash in denim and blue on Friday, 19th September, as we took part in Jeans for Genes Day 2025. This annual charity initiative raises awareness and funds to support children and families affected by genetic conditions. By simply wearing jeans and making donations, communities help fund research, specialist care, and resources that make a real difference in people’s lives.

More importantly, the day allowed us to reinforce our focus on inclusion, understanding others’ perspectives, and above all, being kind - key elements of our Community Promise. Thank you to all the students who made a pledge for inclusivity at our campus photobooths. Your enthusiastic participation helped raise awareness and foster a culture of acceptance, celebrating every individual and the diversity that makes our community stronger.

A View 'Through Another’s Eyes': The Poetry Challenge

The Jeans for Genes event was swiftly followed by the deadline for our internal selection for the COBIS Poetry Competition - and we were absolutely thrilled by the overwhelming number of entries received!

The challenge this year invited students to explore the powerful theme ‘Through Another’s Eyes’, encouraging thoughtful reflection on empathy, perspective-taking, and understanding differences. The standard of work was incredibly high, with entries demonstrating depth of emotion, insightful viewpoints, and imaginative wordplay from our young writers.

A large selection of these wonderful poems are proudly displayed along the vibrant MUSE Corridor at the Primary Campus. We encourage you to stop by on your next visit - you’ll be truly inspired by the creativity and compassion on show.

After much careful deliberation from our judging panel, we are delighted to announce our chosen poet selected to represent Alice Smith School in the international competition:

✨ Molly in 6I ✨

Enjoy the Winning Poem

Here is an extract from Molly’s fantastic poem, ‘The Hawk and the Mouse’, which offers a striking contrast between two very different worlds:

One lives a life of constant flight,
With blinking sun and starry nights.
One lives a life of damp and deep,
Where rodents silently carefully creep.

Please join us in wishing Molly the very best of luck in the COBIS Poetry Competition! We are so proud of her achievement and of all the students who took part in this meaningful celebration of empathy, diversity, and creative expression.
